ABOUT Community Works Journal
CWJ is published quarterly by Vermont Community Works, Inc., in support of teaching practices that build community. CWJ is now in its eighth year of publication and continues to serve a crucial need for models and resources that inspire by example. The publication has a national audience of educators from schools, community-based programs, and networks. We welcome unsolicited article ideas; they will be reviewed and their authors contacted promptly.

THE JOURNAL'S AUDIENCE
We now have subscribers in all fifty US states as well as overseas. Generally, Journal readers are educators of one type or another, from K-16 to community based programs, along with representatives of local and national organizations. Additionally a sizable number of readers are simply community members with an interest in supporting and improving local educations.

SUBMITTING AN ARTICLE
We are looking for articles that address or relate to innovative educational strategies and practices that involve teachers and students in meaningful work within their communities. Articles may feature curriculum or program examples, tools and teaching resources. We are especially interested in student reflections on learning. Appropriate topics include:
• Sustainability • Place-Based Education • Service-Learning
• Environmental Education and Ecological Literacy
• Local History and Cultural Preservation
• Reviews of resources that support our areas of focus
Be sure to include a brief biography of the author, with contact information if you choose. Vermont Community Works, Inc. holds copyright on all original materials published in Community Works Journal and retains the right to include materials on our web-site.

ARTICLE TEXT
We strongly encourage submissions be sent by email. All word processing formats are acceptable. Documents must be sent as an attachment to your email. Material may also be sent on CD to the address below. Word Count Max is generally 1,600 words. Please contact us if this is a problem. In some cases we will edit for length by author’s request. An exception to word maximum may be inclusion of information on a resource of significance to the article.

PHOTOS & DRAWINGS
Our readers appreciate seeing photos and drawings or artwork that help to give context to, and explain, what is being written about in an article. Student writing samples are also helpful in some cases. We will scan and return original photo prints or artwork if you enclose a self addressed stamped envelope.

We appreciate receiving digital images by email or CD, provided you observe the following guidelines: Scanned images must have a resolution of 300ppi; Digital camera images should be sent unchanged–full size.
